Wood Spirit Bird Box

These hand carved wooden nesting boxes are full of character and are built to RSPB specifications so that they are practical as well as beautiful.

The apex of the roof is protected by lead to prevent water ingress and there is a flap at the base to aid cleaning. There are drainage holes at the base and sufficient ventilation is provided beneath the eves and fixing holes to the rear.

As each one is hand carved and unique there will be some variation in the details. Boxes will come with advice on the best location for your box and cleaning instructions.

Materials Used 

FSC certified pine wood, lead roof cap.

Finish

The boxes are preserved using Shou Sugi Ban wood treatment, the most natural and ancient of all preservative methods. 

Options
The diameter of the entrance hole can be 25mm, 28mm or 32 mm depending on which species you wish to attract, A 25 mm entry hole is best suited for smaller birds, such as blue tit, coal tit and marsh tit. A 32 mm entry hole is suitable for slightly larger garden birds like great tit, tree our house sparrow, nuthatch and lesser spotted woodpecker. If you are unsure, you can specify the 28mm which is a good compromise.
